An "atomic age" film from the 1950's. After a 17-year dormancy, a Cicada of enormous proportions begins to wreak havoc on the American public. During the month of May when the soil temperature has exceeded 64°F, the insect awakens from its lengthy slumber and breaks through the earth's crust. Starting with Southwest Ohio, the carnivorous Cicada travels the countryside devouring and destroying everything in its path. Local scientists believe it has mutated to its current magnitude by atomic radiation. The U.S. Army is eventually called in to dispose of the beast and force it to retreat back below earth's surface.
