a version of the liar paradox. the shirt calls public attention to its paid-for message. it advertises that advertising is a lie.

ditto to above comment. and, advertising is seduction. that makes seduction lying; seduction is also entertainment. that would make entertainment lying, too.

I don't think advertising can be more honest. They want your time, your money, or your attention -- doesn't get simpler than that.

I also don't buy into comparing design and advertising as dichotomies. It's like comparing a mechanic with the car he's fixing.

I agree, Louise. Maybe advertising can be seen as evil or duping, but it's pretty damn honest! I think "design" beats around the bush a little more and hides its true intentions, which are ultimately, similar to that of advertising.

funny thing is, that designers either work for advertising or at one point will learn that they cant pay their bills WITHOUT advertising their design.

designers try too hard to be better than every body else.
